Wegman supplies the Cameron Orbit rising stem ball valve from SLB — the industry benchmark for applications demanding zero leakage and frequent operation. The Orbit’s signature tilt-and-turn design eliminates seat rubbing during both opening and closing, delivering low-torque operation and exceptional long-term reliability in severe service conditions. From molecular sieve switching in gas processing plants to emergency shutdown and block-and-bypass duties, the Orbit is trusted worldwide for high-integrity isolation.
Applications:
– Gas processing plants with molecular sieve dryer switching service
– Flowlines, meter isolation and block-and-bypass
– Emergency shutdown (ESD) systems
– Suction and discharge isolation
– Product segregation
– Heat-transfer fluid service
– Hydrogen, CCUS, renewable fuels and ammonia service
Orbit Rising Stem Ball Valve
Features and Benefits
Standardized low-emissions stem packing:
Low-emissions graphite packing is now standard on all Orbit valves across all pressure classes, certified to API 622, ISO 15848-1, and API 607 — achieving the best possible ISO 15848-1 Tightness Class AH rating at temperature extremes. For the most stringent fugitive emissions requirements, the Orbit Low-E™ upgrade is available with enhanced gasket technology.
– Valves previously supplied with closed bonnets and GP6 packing now feature an OS&Y bonnet with improved packing retention and low-emissions graphite packing with Teflon® (500°F configuration). Closed bonnets and GP6 packing remain available on request.
– Valves previously supplied with OS&Y and Tibronile packing now feature improved low-emissions graphite packing with enhanced packing retention.
– Closed-bonnet ammonia service valves (previously T5 trim with GP19 packing) are now supplied as standard OS&Y with T3 trim and low-emissions graphite packing with Teflon®.
Tilt-and-Turn Design:
The Orbit’s patented tilt-and-turn mechanism lifts the core clear of the seat before rotating, meaning sealing surfaces never make contact during opening or closing. With no seat rubbing during rotation, the torque required is minimal — the stem turns freely without dragging against a loaded seat face. This eliminates the primary cause of seat wear in conventional valves, ensuring reliable positive shutoff across thousands of cycles — even in high-temperature and abrasive service conditions.
Mechanical Cam Closure:
On closing, a mechanical cam positively wedges the core against the seat — delivering forced, leak-tight shutoff independent of line pressure. This makes the Orbit equally reliable in both high- and low-differential pressure conditions, where conventional valves relying on line pressure to energise the seat can fail to achieve a complete seal.
Top-entry Design:
Allows inline inspection and repair of depressurised systems without removing the valve from the pipeline.
Self-Cleaning:
Full 360° flow around the ball face during operation flushes debris away from the seat.
Dual Stem Guides:
Control the lift and turn of the stem for consistent, repeatable operation.
